Cray Eatery: Infused Spirits and Sliders

I had a date with a girl I met on and I took her to this restaurant/bar called Cray Eatery downtown.   This place was located close to the Smith Bros. building on N. Fourth Street, a little north of Goodale St.  At night there is heavy traffic directed up north (Fourth Street is one way, so if you miss it, you will have to turn down Third Street and come back around).

I had never been to Cray Eatery and I was curious to find out more about it.  I was working at this company called The Shipyard (located within the Smith Bros. building) as a contractor so I drove by Cray Eatery every day.  I had seen previously from a friend’s Facebook post that they served infused spirits over there and I was dying to give it a try.

Sliders and Spirits

Cray Eatery has a very limited menu.  To be honest I was expecting a bit more, but they mainly served sliders and appetizers.  I ordered the pulled pork, roasted duck and barbecue beef.  My date had the Mac and cheese and was surprised that it was on a bun.  Between us we also ordered a side of fries and lucky for us, they made more so we were given an extra order by the bartender/server.

Sliders at Cray Eatery - December 2014

As you can see, the sliders are pretty big.  They were only around $3.99 each, so it was perceived as a good deal.  Their business module seemed pretty different as it relied on small plates and the cheap price makes you want to order more (I actually ordered a 4th slider when I was finished, because they were so good).  As you can see, things quickly add up and $3.99 x 4 becomes $16 for one person, which is actually if not the same or more than ordering an entree from a traditional sit down restaurant.

Pumpkin Spice infused Bourbon

My date did not drink alcohol and I had eaten, so I only wanted to have one drink.  I saw that they had a pumpkin spice infused bourbon, and me being a pumpkin addict chose that as my drink for the evening.  I am normally not a fan of bourbon and the particular bourbon they used was quite bitter in my opinion.  I had hoped that it had contained a pumpkin scent or at least an after taste, but it did not.  I was a little disappointed, but I still drank it.

Overall:  I would definitely come back (but more often if I lived in the area).  The drinks are fun, but parking is not exactly easy to find.  There are meters down the street, but you have to be careful because there is a lot of restricted parking intended for residents only, so you don’t want to get a ticket.  I’m not sure when I will be back, but at some point I will have to bring my friend there as we do enjoy trying new drinks.
